Come on by, we'll be here!

The updated design of the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 32 includes the removal of the midfoot overlays leaving a precise, one-piece engineered mesh and Flywire upper, built to deliver support and performance.

Stripped of all overlays, Nike's LunarGlide 7 leaves only what you need to rack up the miles. Engineered mesh works with Flyknit construction to lock you down onto the springy, soft Lunarlon foam for an ultra-smooth ride.

Plantar Fasciitis...

What is it, and how do I treat it?

Plantar fasciitis (PLAN-tur fas-e-I-tis) is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes.

  • Wearing flat soled shoes constantly or walking around barefoot can cause the plantar fascia to become fatigued and injured.
  • Overweight - if you are overweight, that can cause your arches to collapse even faster and cause more discomfort.
  • Tight Achilles tendon or tight calf muscles can cause Plantar Fasciitis.
  • Excessive pronation - which is the rolling in of your foot at the ankle.

Plantar fasciitis typically causes a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. The pain is usually worst with the first few steps after awakening, although it can also be triggered by long periods of standing or getting up from a seated position.

  • Orthotics, whether custom made or over the counter. These work best by creating an arch and supporting your foot.
  • Getting properly fitted for shoes with good arch support
  • Rolling over a frozen water bottle to alleviate the swelling caused by plantar fasciitis.
  • If the pain does not subside and continues to get worse, recommend to the customer to ask their doctor about a cortisone injection to alleviate the pain.

Mizuno Wave Paradox 2

The Wave Paradox 2 is Mizuno's newest shoe to offer great stability and cushioning in one. The shoe doesn't use traditional posting, but instead uses a Double Fan wave plate in the heel that transitions into an articulated wave in the forefoot. This support shoe provides exceptional stability with limited rigidity for a smooth, cushioned ride. They've also added an additional millimeter of blown rubber for longer wear.

New Saucony Shoes

The Saucony Breakthru is the lightest 8mm everyday trainer to come from Saucony. The platform featuring heel-to-toe "Powergrid" provides a good blend of cushioning and responsiveness. The upper design with minimal overlays enhances comfort while minimizing weight.

The Saucony Mirage 5 is designed for runners seeking a responsive, flexible ride with a touch of guidance. The "Pro-Lock" lacing system has been added to the midfoot for an adaptable, locked-in fit. The Mirage also has no-sew overlays and a soft breathable mesh that help deliver a lightweight, seamless feel. The 4mm offset encourages a smooth, more efficient gait.

Fun Recipe

Mediterranean Lamb Burgers

  • 1/2 cup good-quality mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons tapenade
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground lamb
  • 3 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh oregano leaves
  • 2 teaspoons grated garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 large egg ligthly beaten
  • Vegetable oil for grilling
  • 4 burger buns halved and toasted
  • 1/2 red onion sliced into 4 rings
  • Handful baby arugula
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 Persian cucumbers thinly sliced

For the mayonnaise:

Place the mayonnaise and tapenade or olives in a medium bowl and mix to incorporate.

Tip: The mayonnaise can be made up to 2 days ahead; store refrigerated in an airtight container until ready to use.

For the burgers:
Combine the lamb, oregano, garlic, coriander, cumin, salt, pepper, and egg in a large bowl and, using your clean hands, mix until just combined. Split the meat into 4 equal portions and shape each piece into a patty that is 1/2-inch-thick and roughly 1/2-inch wider than the burger buns.

Using your thumb, make a 1-inch-wide indentation in the center of each patty in order to help the burgers cook more evenly. Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill to medium high (about 450°F to 550°F). When the grill is ready, use tongs to rub the grate with several layers of paper towels soaked in vegetable oil.

Tip: You can assemble the patties up to 4 hours in advance. Store covered in the refrigerator until ready to cook.

Place the patties on the grill indentation-side up, close the grill, and cook, making sure you do not press down on the patties, until grill marks appear on the bottom, about 3 minutes. Flip each patty and cook with grill closed until the patties are firm to the touch, about 3 more minutes. Remove to a clean plate and let rest in a warm place for a few minutes.

To assemble:
Spread about 1 tablespoon of the mayonnaise on each top and bottom bun (you may have some mayo leftover). Divide red onions and cucumber slices amongst burger roll bottoms, top with a patty, then garnish each with arugula and feta. Top with the bun and serve immediately.

We post maybe once a week, to keep it unobtrusive. It isn't about promoting product, but rather about events in the running and walking world, goings-on in the community, and sometimes the accomplishments of some of its members.
