2nd Annual Turkey Chase!

It's coming up already! The 2nd Napa Valley Turkey Chase. Like last year's wonderfully successful event, proceeds will go to benefit the Napa Food Bank (CANV).

Given the size of the event last year, we are modifying the course to start at the Napa Valley College, allowing for better traffic flow before hitting the river trail.

Come and join us again this year for a great way to start off the Thanksgiving festivities!

Thank you for running the 1st Annual Napa Half!

Thank you to all who joined us for a fun-filled 1st Napa Half Marathon! You made the event a real success, with all the net proceeds to benefit the Earthquake Relief Fund.

We want to congratulate ALL the runners, in particular our Overall Male and Female winners:

Jeff Chambrello,in 1:27:54.2
Pearson Alspach, in 1:30:15.4
Those are some great times!

Check out our Facebook page for a nice sampling of pictures from the race.

Congratulations Kyle Hawk!

A big shout-out to our team member Kyle Hawk who was nominated Homecoming King at Napa High School, ran a great 5K at the Stanford Cross Country Invitational in 16:06, and won the MEL Center Meet at Alston Park!... What a week!!

Congratulations Kyle, we're all really proud of you and all your accomplishments.

The Hoka Clifton has arrived

The Clifton by Hoka One One that was just voted by Runner's World as "Runner's World Editor's Choice" Shoe is now at Athletic Feat!

Quite possibly the smoothest-riding shoe on the market, the CLIFTON offers incredible cushioning at an almost impossibly light weight. Earlystage Meta-Rocker sculpting geometry provides a fluid, efficient ride and the stripped down SpeedFrame upper leaves no extra weight for you to lug around. If you want to take the feeling of running on grass with you to the concrete jungle, look no further than the Clifton.

Fall Recipe

Butternut Squash and Kale Warm Fall Salad

From runnersworld.com
By Caitlin Giddings.

This recipe is great for when you're craving a hearty, filling salad but want to stick to seasonal ingredients. You'll get the most flavor out of the smallest carbon footprint, and the squash makes a great fall fill-in for summer tomatoes. Try it, and consider making room for more than one bulbous gourd in your life this season.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large bunches of kale
  • 1 small butternut squash
  • 1/8 red onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts
  • 5 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp goat cheese (honey goat cheese adds a nice sweetness)
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Peel butternut squash, remove pulp, and cut into ˝-inch chunks.
  3. Toss chunks in a bowl with a tablespoon of olive oil. Spread out on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 17 minutes, until tender and starting to brown.
  5. While squash is baking, wash kale and allow to dry. Toast walnuts for 2 minutes in a small oven-safe pan.
  6. For dressing, combine vinegar, mustard, a teaspoon of salt, cayenne pepper, and a generous amount of fresh-ground black pepper in a small bowl. While whisking, drizzle in 2 tablespoons olive oil.
  7. Mince garlic clove, and add to dressing.
  8. Remove stems from kale, and chop into 1 to 2-inch pieces.
  9. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large, non-stick sauté pan over medium-high heat.
  10. Add kale, and stir constantly. Cook for 5 minutes until kale is bright green and slightly wilted.
  11. Remove from heat, transfer kale to a large bowl and toss with dressing, onions, walnuts, and a small pinch of salt.
  12. Pile salad in center of plates. Top with butternut squash and crumbled goat cheese. Recipe feeds two.
