Giovanni Guzman joins the Athletic Feat team
He goes by Gio, and is coming from Southern California where he worked for Santa Clarita's largest running shoe store, Runners Lane, for 6 years. He has been running competitively since he was 12 years old.
Gio ran for Hart High School in Newhall, CA and then college took him to the Pacific Northwest where he ran for the University of Oregon Running Club all 4 years. Since graduating college, Gio has run countless 5Ks & 10Ks, a few Half Marathons, one official marathon, one 50K trail race, one Half Ironman, and is currently training for the Eugene Marathon this July. He has plans to finish off this year with a 50 miler here in nearby Marin.
He's a pretty big shoe nerd, so feel free to pick his brain about shoes. In his spare time he likes to go hiking and bicycle riding and of course planning his next crazy race. So come on by Athletic Feat and meet our newest member!

Latest Hoka Colors
The latest colors of the Hoka Bondi 3 and Hoka Conquest are in!
The Hoka is in a category of its own. Its extreme cushioning originally designed for very long distance running or uneven running surfaces where the additional rubber shields your feet from the rough terrain. It is surprisingly light for its size, and many runners have taken to running in a Hoka on all their runs, just for the additional comfort.

Because we don't send out an email every time there is a sale, or a race, or an event at the store, or at a school, or in the community, we post these things on Facebook. We post maybe once a week, to keep it unobtrusive. It isn't about promoting product, but rather about events in the running and walking world, goings-on in the community, and sometimes the accomplishments of some of its members.
AND, to keep things interesting, we do a drawing once a quarter among all our Facebook friends for a $100 Athletic Feat gift certificate! Spend it on shoes, apparel, accessories, you choose.
See you there!
Caprese Farro Salad
By Joanna Sayago Golub, senior editor, Runner's World. Recipe by Tracy Harris
This recipe combines all the goodness of a traditional caprese salad -- fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil -- with farro, a whole grain that looks similar to barley and has a plump, chewy texture and full-bodied, nutty flavor. Farro is rich in protein, fiber, and vitamins and can be substituted for any whole grain, such as brown rice, barley, or quinoa. While this dish makes for a hearty meal on its own, you can also serve it as a side.
Total Time: 35 min
- 10 oz farro (about 1 1/2 cup)
- 4 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 oz cherry tomatoes, halved
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, cubed, or 8 ounces mini mozzarella balls
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, chiffonade (thin strips made by laying the leaves together, rolling like a cigar, and slicing crosswise)
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 1/2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp agave nectar or honey
- Ground black pepper
- Combine the farro with the water in a medium saucepan. Add the salt. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the farro is tender. Drain well and place in a large bowl. Add the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Toss to combine.
- Whisk together the oil, vinegar, agave nectar or honey, and pepper to taste in a small bowl. Drizzle over the farro mixture and toss to coat. Serve immediately or let cool and serve at room temperature.
