Napa Valley's 2nd Annual Resolution Run!

Napa Valley Resolution Run 2014 January 1, 2014

Registration for the 2014 Napa Valley Resolution Run is well on its way. Like last year, the 5K fun run/walk will go through beautiful downtown Yountville, and this year we are adding a 10K route that will take you through the grounds of the Veterans Home. Proceeds will again benefit the Vine Trail.

New Balance is sponsoring the event with a free pair of shoes to the top 3 male/female finisher in both events! Thank you New Balance!

Sign up online at www.naparesolutionrun.com and join us for a fun New Year family event.

The Vine Trail

The Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition is a grass-root nonprofit with a vision to build a walking/biking trail system connecting the entire Napa Valley. With the help of all of us, the Vine Trail is working to design, fund, construct, and maintain 44 safe and scenic miles of level, paved, family-friendly, free-access Class I trail, stretching from the Vallejo Ferry to Calistoga. For more info about the Vine trail please visit vinetrail.org.

Fun Recipe

Homemade Hot Pocket
Recipe by Linda Melvin of running4two.com

Hot Pockets have a bad reputation: they're highly processed convenience food without much nutritional value.

This recipe, shared by running blogger Linda Melvin of running4two.com, uses fresh ingredients to create a family-sized Hot-Pocket-like thing... one that you might actually feel good about eating.

  • 2 cups sliced zucchini and/or yellow squash
  • 1/2 cup chopped portobello mushrooms
  • 1/2 bag baby spinach
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 jar pasta sauce
  • 12 ounces pizza dough (give or take)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium, then cook the turkey, zucchini, and yellow squash. Once the turkey is no longer pink and the squash is starting to soften, add the mushrooms, spinach, and garlic (optional). Once the spinach has started to wilt, add the pasta sauce, and cook until heated.
  2. Meanwhile, grease a baking sheet and roll the pizza dough out flat. Add the mixture to the center of the dough and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. (Depending on how thinly you roll the dough, you may have filling left over -- it works well atop pasta.)
  3. Fold over the edges and try to cover most of the filling. Brush the outside of the dough with olive oil and bake at 400 degrees for about 17 minutes, or until the dough turns golden brown. Serves 4-6
